Brava: Municipality delivers home to resident who lived in precarious situation
This Tuesday, Brava City Council handed over a house to a physically disabled, homeless man who lived on the streets of Nova Sintra, as part of the social action program that the municipality has been implementing.
Speaking to Inforpress, the president of Brava City Council, Francisco Tavares, highlighted that this social action was in partnership with the Health Delegation, Red Cross and also the owners of the land where the little house was built.
“Here on Brava Island we don't have homeless people, but unfortunately, in recent times, in this case, Mr. Carlos suffered blood circulation problems and therefore had to have both legs amputated. However, he lived in a residence in the town of Mato Grande and in the conditions he finds himself in at the moment, he was unable to travel to the community”, he explained.
In this sense, the mayor highlighted that the physically disabled person had been sleeping outside, on the streets of the city of Nova Sintra, which led the municipality and its partners to create all the conditions for the beneficiary to receive a “dignified” home. consisting of a bedroom and bathroom.
“The room is located very close to the Red Cross institution, whose purpose is to guarantee bathing, washing clothes and three meals a day, and is also a few meters from the entrance to the Health Station, which guarantees permanent medical assistance” , he stressed.
According to the mayor, everyone has the right to live with “dignity”, indicating that this is “a social case”, which led the competent authorities to monitor the situation closely.
For his part, the beneficiary, Carlos Baptista, better known as “Caju”, appeared happy and praised the attitude of the city council and partners, also highlighting that from now on he will sleep in a comfortable place.
“Before I was sleeping on the streets, under trees, which I liked, but now I can spend the night in a decent house, and thus protect myself from the rain and cold that were really harming me”, he concluded.
